Day 4: Teenage Misfit

As a teenager, my primary order of business was to try on a variety of selves and identities. It was like being in a dressing room, searching for the right clothes to fit. I felt as though I was the only one trapped in this uncertain state, faking my way through a game that I didn't quite grasp. Later, I was surprised and comforted to discover the truth of those teen years - everyone else was just as confused and uncomfortable as I was.

That is exactly how I felt in high school. And what's funny is I always looked up to you and thought you had everything figured out. You seemed so confident and I wished I felt the same.

Sarah, I probably wore a decently constructed "confidence mask" for most of junior high and high school. I wonder if we polled everyone now from high school about how confident and secure they felt, what kinds of responses people would have.
